1 Samuel: Kingdom Come
Every healthy kingdom craves healthy leadership. The story of 1 Samuel picks up where the book of Judges leaves off: God’s people thrown into moral chaos and constant wickedness as a country. But instead of focusing on national politics, 1 Samuel begins with an intimate look at Hannah, a woman in suffering who one day hopes to be a mom. She eventually gives birth to Samuel, a prophet, who God uses to install Israel’s first two kings: Saul and David. By looking at the lives of Hannah, Samuel, Saul, and David, we hope to gain a better glimpse into the kind of kingdom Christ came to establish, that has come, and that we get to be a part of! This important section of the history of God’s people is our history, too. We should be familiar with it and all it has to teach us about living in a kingdom, for a King, and under a King.
